When I first unboxed the iPhone SE, I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me. The compact size and familiar design reminded me of older iPhones I once adored. It’s like Apple took a trip down memory lane and came back with a device that blends the modern with the classic.
However, that initial excitement was somewhat dampened when I realized just how small the screen felt. I found myself squinting more often than I'd like. I remember the first time I tried scrolling through my social media. I felt like I was back in high school trying to read the fine print on my textbooks!
As a daily commuter, I swear by my GPS. I rely on it to navigate the labyrinth of city streets, especially when I’m late. There was one particularly stressful day when I was en route to an important meeting, and I missed my stop AGAIN because the GPS froze. I was so annoyed when I had to backtrack and was late! These moments of panic are just too much to handle when you’re racing against the clock.
On the flip side, there are days when the GPS works flawlessly. I genuinely appreciate how quickly it picks up my location and updates traffic conditions. Knowing I can avoid that dreaded gridlock makes my mornings a bit less stressful.
Battery life is a huge concern for me, especially with my busy schedule. I was bracing myself for disappointment because I've heard mixed reviews about its endurance. I felt relief when I discovered that the iPhone SE actually held up pretty well through my commute. I often make it through an 8-hour workday without needing a charge!
However, there are those moments when I feel like the battery drains inexplicably fast — like during that video call with my mom. I had to scramble for a charger mid-conversation. For this price, I expected better, honestly. It’s frustrating not knowing whether my phone will last through the day or not.
Living in a bustling city means that I’m constantly surrounded by people, especially downtown. I often find myself in crowded areas where the signal can be spotty, and it’s maddening! I’ve lost important calls when I've needed to talk to my boss or check in with a client. Each time I’m greeted with that dreaded 'call failed' message, I feel a twinge of anxiety.
But there are days when I’m pleasantly surprised by the performance. I was in a packed subway station once, and I was able to stream music without any interruptions! It felt like a small victory that moment, and I’m thankful for those times when the signal holds strong.
Using my phone on public transport can be a juggling act. The iPhone SE’s compact size should make it perfect for one-handed use, but honestly, it can still feel a bit clumsy. I once attempted to send a quick text while holding onto a rail during a bumpy ride. I was so annoyed when my thumb accidentally opened my camera instead of sending my message!
That said, I do appreciate how lightweight it is. I often find myself pulling it out during my commute just to scroll through articles on the train. When it works, it feels so effortlessly handy, which is a relief when you’re juggling coffee, bags, and sometimes even a book!
In the grand scheme of things, the iPhone SE has its ups and downs. Can I rely on it daily? Yes, but with a few caveats. I’ve had to adjust my expectations, especially given the price point. I love some of the features it offers, but there are moments when I’m left feeling slightly let down.
It’s a mixed bag. I’m grateful for the compact design and how it fits seamlessly into my life, but I can’t ignore the frustrations of GPS hiccups or battery issues. Overall, it’s a reliable companion, but it’s the little annoyances that keep me on my toes!
