I recently decided to try out the Redmi 12C, mainly because my old phone had officially kicked the bucket. I was cautiously optimistic, especially given the price point. It felt like a gamble, and honestly, I was a bit excited to see if it could impress me.
The first time I held it, I was pleasantly surprised by how sleek and lightweight it felt. It didn’t have the heft that some of the more premium phones have, which I actually liked. However, that excitement faded a bit when I noticed how plastic it felt – I started to wonder if it could stand up to my daily life, which can get a bit rough around the edges.
There are definitely aspects of the Redmi 12C that have genuinely impressed me. For starters, the display is pretty decent. Watching videos and scrolling through social media feels pretty smooth, and the colors pop just enough to make me smile. I was genuinely happy to see how vibrant the screen looks, especially when I was binge-watching my favorite series on a lazy Sunday.
One feature that I absolutely love is the fingerprint sensor – it's quick and responsive. I felt like a total boss unlocking my phone in a flash, while my friend fumbled with her older model. It’s these small moments where you really appreciate functionality that makes everyday tasks just a little bit easier. This kind of thoughtful design makes a difference, and I've found myself enjoying the little things about using this phone.
But like any relationship, there are hiccups. I was so annoyed when the phone sometimes lags while switching between apps. I mean, come on! For a device that’s supposed to be modern, I expected it to handle basic tasks without hiccups. I found myself waiting way longer than I should have, and that disrupted my flow.

It feels like a corner-cutting decision, and honestly, I expected better for a phone that’s marketed to be user-friendly. It just bums me out when I think about how something so simple could have added to my experience.

I find myself tethered to a charger way more often than I’d like. The battery drains faster than I anticipated, especially when using GPS or streaming content.
It can be a real pain when you're out and about, and you suddenly see that dreaded low battery warning pop up. I’ve started carrying a power bank everywhere, which is super inconvenient. For a modern smartphone, I was honestly hoping for more longevity. I mean, who wants to be that person hunting for an outlet?
Now, let’s get into the camera, which is a mixed bag for me. On good days, it takes really decent pictures. I remember snapping a shot during a sunset, and to my surprise, the colors turned out vibrant and rich. This genuinely impressed me, and I found myself sharing the photo with friends who couldn’t believe it was taken on a budget phone.
However, on cloudy or low-light days, the camera struggles. I was quite let down when I tried to capture a fun moment with friends at night, and the photos were grainy and just not that great. It’s these inconsistencies that make me wish the camera could be more reliable. I want to share great memories, but I feel like I need to plan my shots around perfect lighting conditions, which is a little exhausting!
So, should you buy the Redmi 12C? Honestly, it boils down to what you’re looking for in a phone. If you’re on a budget and need something that gets the basics right, it could work for you, but it’s important to manage expectations. The display and camera have their moments, but the battery life and occasional lags are definitely drawbacks.
For me, it’s a love-hate relationship. I appreciate the thoughtful features and the price, but I can’t ignore the frustration that comes with its shortcomings. If you're someone who values performance over all, I'd recommend exploring other options, but if you’re just dipping your toes into smartphone waters, the Redmi 12C might be a decent starting point. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you about the battery life!
